| 8:00 AM | EPC Committee ![]() 2-Day Workshop The EPC curriculum focuses on the care of sick and injured children and gives students a practical understanding of respiratory, cardiovascular, medical and traumatic emergencies in the pediatric patient population. Assessment is based upon the Pediatric Assessment Triangle (PAT), and lessons are consistent with current pediatric knowledge and skills. The 16-hour program incorporates Family Centered Care throughout all scenarios, and includes a component on caring for children with special needs. The target audience for the accelerated two-part EPC Provider-Instructor program is experienced EMS educators with prior pediatric CME experience or interest. Qualified participants may attend the four-hour instructor course following the provider course Tuesday evening. Proof of recognition as an instructor in any EMS certification licensure or CME course is required. |
| 8:00 AM | ![]() 2-Day Workshop The Beyond the Street workshop helps supervisors of EMS operations think and act like leaders, providing additional training in management effectiveness and skills. Participants acquire essential management skills, from working effectively with different generations in the workforce and handling conflict to building trust with peers, bosses and other agencies. Attendees learn when to be directive, when to coach and when to delegate - and how to earn respect from the EMS field personnel they once worked alongside. Additional strategies include handling complaints effectively and building customer satisfaction. Industry-leading faculty - Dr. Jay Fitch with Mike Ragone and David M. Williams (co-authors of the JEMS 200-City Survey)- guide participants in experiential and practical learning sessions that let them own their learning experience and leave with skills that will aid them on their next shift. |
| 8:00 AM | John Rinard & TEEX Faculty 2-Day Workshop Limit 50 students This course addresses medical preparedness for and response to blast effects through a combination of lectures, small group activities and tabletop participant exercises. Participants completing this course will gain an enhanced understanding and awareness of issues and considerations relating to a bombing incident. Content areas include identification of targets, explosives characteristics, pre-attack indicators, pre- and post-detonation response, bombing injuries, security and resource management. The course is approved for 16 hours continuing education through CECBEMS, and 15 hours CME by the American Academy of Family Practitioners and the Emergency Nurses Association. Although there are no prerequisites for the class, familiarity with the National Incident Management System (NIMS) and the Incident Command System via completion of FEMA independent study courses IS-100, IS-200 and IS-700 (or their equivalents) is recommended. |

| 8:00 AM | PHTLS Committee ![]() 8-Hour Workshop The Trauma First Response course is a one-day, eight-hour continuing education course designed to teach the principles of PHTLS to first responders. Police officers, firefighters, rescue personnel and safety officers will find the course helpful in preparing them to care for trauma patients, whether they serve as part of transport teams or they care for patients while awaiting transport providers. The core content of PHTLS is covered in a manner that will be useful to providers that have not had EMT or advanced prehospital training. The lectures and practical stations are designed for the type of care first responders can render while awaiting transport and helps enable them to assist paramedics and EMTs at the trauma scene. |

| 8:00 AM | Cindy Tait, MICP, RN, CEN, CFRN, MPH 8-Hour Workshop This is an excellent overview for EMS providers considering certification as an EMT-P/CC, as well as a preparatory course for those intending on certification. While EMS is all about resuscitation, critical care transport is an entirely different mind-set and skills set requiring advanced knowledge, skills, team interaction and problem-solving abilities. This challenging course will provide a blend of information covering both ground and air transport patient care and related technology, including: team dynamics involving RNs, RCPs, MDs and perfusionists; patient packaging; physiologic considerations during transport; tubes, lines, drains, cardiac monitors, ventilators, pumps and pressure monitors; interpretation of diagnostic tests (chem panels, x-rays, ABGs, 12-lead ECGs); special considerations related to systems (OB, burns, ortho, cardiovascular, pulmonary, pediatric); post-resuscitation fluids and medications; patient transfer and documentation; and CISD and team debriefing. The day will end with tips for writing a resume and interview techniques vital to securing a job as a ground or flight critical care transport specialist. |
