This podcast looks at issues facing technical rescue teams on an international level including training, funding and resource allocation. Panelists include: Lt. Michael Daley, Monroe Township Fire District 3; Pete Rizzo of Tech Rescue Corp and Garth Vincent, chief of emergency operations with Eastern Emergency Response in Trinidad. The host is Capt. Bob Duemmel with the Rochester, NY, Fire Department. The panel looks at breaking down the silos for a more regional approach to serving the public when the call comes for an incident. They discuss the importance of obtaining and maintaining technical rescue tools and gear. The panel also will look at the impact of the economy on training and procuring equipment. J. Gordon Routley, a division chief with the Montreal Fire Department, hosts a roundtable that explores how the safety culture can evolve in the fire service. Panelists include: Chief of Department Salvatore Cassano, FDNY; Battalion Chief Greg Collier, Mt. Laurel, NJ; Community Affairs Director Billy D. Hayes, Washington D.C.; and Captain Pete Rizzo, retired from Rochester, NY. The panel focuses on the building blocks needed to create a safer work environment, both on the street and in the firehouse. Photo 2010 Fire News Outstanding Leadership Award Nominations Being Accepted




This will be the eighth year that Firehouse Expo, the leading fire, rescue, and EMS event on the East Coast, is partnering with Fire News to pay tribute to an outstanding industry leader. The award will be presented at Firehouse Expo, July 20-25, in Baltimore, MD. In addition to being spotlighted at the show, the winner and two guests will each receive a 3-day conference package providing entrance to training and education sessions, networking events, the opening ceremony and keynote presentation, plus an exhibit floor featuring over 400 exhibitors displaying the latest products, services and technologies in the industry.

To nominate a fire, rescue or EMS professional for the 2010 Fire News Outstanding Leadership Award, download an official form from www.FirehouseExpo.com. Nominations must be received by Monday, May 24, 2010. The winner will be selected from a pool of qualified nominees and announced Tuesday, June 1, 2010. Candidates (those within all ranks of the fire, rescue or EMS service) will exhibit strong leadership qualities, above and beyond the call of duty.
